Have you ever been faced with the situation where your cold water stops running? Although it is not one of our more common callouts, it is not as uncommon as you may think. Therefore below we have provided a few hints and tips regarding what can be done to try and find out what has gone wrong.

So what do you do when your cold water stops running?

The first step is to try and get to the root of the problem. It may sound obvious but the first place to check is to find your stop cock and make sure that it has not been turned off! You would be surprised how often this is the case and it is it is a problem that it is easily sorted, simply turn it back on and your water supply should be back up to full strength.

What happens if it was either already turned on or your turn it on and there is still no water? Then the problem could lie outside of your property and further investigation is required.

Do you live in a house or a block of flats/apartments, if it is the latter make sure that you contact the building’s caretaker as there may be a central valve which would need checking? Again, if that is turned off, switching it back on again can solve the problem.

However, if this still doesn’t solve your problem then it will be down to your water supplier to fix.

An all too common problem in London is the presence of broken pipes and if this is the case in your area, broken pipes will result in a either a significantly reduced mains water pressure – or no pressure/water at all.

If this is the case, then it will be down to your water supplier to perform the required maintenance that will require the supply to your property to be shut off. If they need to switch it off for an extended period of time then they will inform you, however they can sometimes leave you without water for 4 or 5 hours before switching it on again!

If you feel unable to get to the root of the problem, please give us a call and we will be able to do the detective work for you!
