From massive corporations to small homes, the majority of buildings share something in common during the winter – they all rely on their heating systems to keep everyone nice and warm. These fantastic additions are absolutely essential for providing provide a building’s occupants with comfy warmth during the cold winter months.

On occasion though, these heating systems sometimes lose some of their effectiveness and when this happens it is generally due to the fact that they lose their pressure and therefore are unable to produce the levels of heat that they should. The culprit for this problem is nearly always a leak in the system because any type of leakage will result in the air pressure dropping and water being unable to be passed around the system.

Easy and Difficult!

The good news is that fixing a leak is always relatively simple, the bad news however is that finding the leak can often be far more difficult.

Below we have identified a check list of where people should look for a leak if they have any concerns regarding the pressure in their system:

  • The first place to check out is the pipe work. All pipes and joints should be checked for leaks with joints being particularly prone to leaks, especially if they are fixed or jointed. If this ends your search, the effected part can easily be replaced and your problem is solved. However, if this does not end your search, read on.
  • Take a look at your radiator. Radiators are often prone to damage caused by excessive pressure and if too much pressure builds up, holes may occur. If you find a leak here, the safest course of action is to change the radiator.
  • If your radiators do not offer the solution to your problem, make sure that you inspect the valves. Leakages are often found at the places where a valve connects with the pipes or the system.
  • Still no luck? The next port of call for your investigation should be the radiator connector. If you find a leak there, either you should replace it, or you should tighten up the fitting firmly with the help of some adhesive tape.
  • If still have not located the leakage another place to check is the air bleed valve, and if it’s faulty tighten it up.
  • The last place to look for a leak is the valve body; if it’s leaking, tighten the whole assembly up and you will easily get rid of the leak.
